LIVING UNDER THE SIGN OF HOPE
- living under the sign of hope. and then leave that invisible patronage, that unscathed grace and walk and walk and cross borders and settle in another climate and in another wait and suddenly realize that the wind is cold and the night is long and when you turn to see if someone was coming behind it is as useless as leaning on ahead to try and make out the eyes, the figure, of someone in the fog. each step resonates more widely in the immensity of your days, and each precious event, such as the way your children walk, rather than the unremarkable necessity of our coming and going they appear to you as the swerve of grace, or the Mystery, their steps that are already theirs, and only theirs. there is no longer a front, there are no bearers of silence or scouts in the storm, only your eyes that are injured, lacerated by time. there is no one left to turn to, to appease the storm, with a drawing or a story or a song, the storm is the storm and if you see it with those eyes of no one that finally replaced the ones from before, you tremble like the earth trembles, creaking in the void of space, and there are the screams that you hear and there are walls that fall and you see nothing although you see everything, with eyes of no one, eyes closed, now open, now closed, sleeping and waking up standing -
